John,
Early voting for our first 2022 primary will start in less than 90 days. Folks in TX-28, who we’re counting on to elect Justice Democrat Jessica Cisneros and oust anti-abortion corporate Democrat Henry Cuellar, can apply for a mail ballot on January 1st. That’s so soon.
As soon as polls open and mail ballots arrive to voters in TX-28, we need to ensure folks are ready to elect Jessica — a progressive fighter for the people. Cuellar is the most conservative Democrat in the House, and we need to defeat him.
Our four other endorsed Justice Democrats will have elections coming up soon afterward. Jessica, Rana Abdelhamid, Kina Collins, Odessa Kelly, and Summer Lee all need our support right now to defeat the Democratic establishment and expand the Squad in Congress.
We’ve lost tight races before because support came in just too late and we didn’t have enough time to build the momentum to overcome overwhelming odds. It happened with Jessica in 2020 when she lost to Cuellar by only 2,600 votes.
We’ve also had incredible victories, especially when we’ve had the resources to build a strong campaign from the beginning. We supported Jamaal Bowman’s unexpected victory against a top House Democrat in 2020 — we were there organizing and strategizing with him from the very beginning. It took Cori Bush two primaries to defeat a political dynasty in Missouri — the odds were stacked against her, but we were there every step of the way. We needed every dollar, rally, phone call, and door knock Cori’s campaign could muster to win.
And we know what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was able to do with our help. John, we’ve rocked the political world these last few years.
We run some of the leanest campaigns able to win huge upsets against the establishment. But this reality remains and it’s why we haven’t won every race we’ve run: Nearly 90% of Congressional races are won by the candidate who spends more money.
And here’s what the most recent available data shows candidates have in their campaign accounts for a couple of our races in TX-28 and TN-05:
Jessica Cisneros: $311,704
Henry Cuellar: $2,215,866
Odessa Kelly: $154,786
Jim Cooper: $1,065,331
Cuellar and Cooper will keep raking in money from Wall Street and corporate PACs. We can win these races even if we have less money, but we simply can’t be behind by these big margins. We’re relying on your help to counter their Wall Street money with a flood of grassroots donations — $5, $27, $50, whatever folks can afford. We’re relying on you, John.
Can you make your first contribution to elect five more Justice Democrats to Congress?
→ Yes, I can donate to Justice Democrats today to help fuel progressive primaries, expand the Squad, and defeat corporate Democrats. Voting in our first 2022 primary will start in less than 90 days!
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
