Folks, there is no place for lunch shaming in our country.

Schools should never punish students who can’t afford to pay their meal debt. Yet we’ve heard story after story of damaging practices like stopping students from graduating or even selling the debt to a collection agency — causing more harm to families’ finances and credit.

Martin is a major advocate in fighting to end school lunch shaming. Now, he’s joined his colleagues from the New Mexico congressional delegation in calling on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ban school lunch shaming, billing children, and allowing collection agencies to charge interest or fees on top of existing debt.
