NCAA Will Let Student Athletes Profit Off Their Names, Images, and Likenesses

Newsy TV | Adam Elrashidi
October 29, 2019

. . . Tuesday’s ruling marks a 180 from how the NCAA addressed this issue just a month ago ([link removed]) , when it called California’s Fair Pay to Play Act ([link removed]) “unconstitutional.” The NCAA said at the time that such rules would give some schools an “unfair” recruiting advantage, and that those schools would be barred from competition.

So, what changed? One expert summed it up in one word: money. Evan Harris of the Pacific Research Institute, a free-market policy think tank, told Newsy California had “called the NCAA’s bluff” over the state’s lucrative sports market.

We Need a Cure for the Arrogance of Drug Price Control Advocates
Forbes.com | Wayne Winegarden
October 29, 2019

"Three hundred forty-five billion dollars in savings versus the cost of eight to 15 fewer drugs over 10 years, I frankly think it’s worth it.”
Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL), hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee

In the above quote, Representative Soto is defending H.R. 3 ([link removed]) , the drug price control bill Speaker Nancy Pelosi is advocating. While the Congressman believes that the costs of price controls are “worth it”, patients living with diseases that lack an effective treatment may disagree.

It's No Surprise Republicans Are Leaving Liberals to Fester in High-Cost California
Daily Caller | Kerry Jackson
October 29, 2019

It was a New York governor, not one in California, who said conservatives weren’t welcome in the state. But apparently conservatives out here are getting the message. A recent poll found that 46 percent of those who consider themselves “very conservative” have considered leaving California.

October 29, 2019

A few weeks ago, I wrote ([link removed]) a piece on the National Council on Teacher Quality’s excellent research on California’s failed teacher quality policies, and now the organization has followed up by releasing a new analysis showing that California is AWOL when it comes to policies on teacher leadership.

Zuckerberg, Facebook Go Full Public Relations Blitz as Libra Stumbles
Right by the Bay Blog | Evan Harris
October 31, 2019

. . . Congress has had an eye on regulating Facebook, and other technology and social media companies for some time. Congressional members summoned Mark Zuckerberg to Capitol Hill in April 2019, unfortunately showing little understanding ([link removed]) of what Facebook actually is. Recently, Congress sent Zuckerberg another DM, demanding to know what Facebook’s long-term goal is with Libra. In a marathon six-hour testimony ([link removed]) on Oct. 23, Zuckerberg answered a literal barrage of questions from the House Services Financial Committee.

Apocalypse Not! How Science is Distorted to Serve the Activist Agenda
Issues and Insights | Henry I. Miller, M.S., M.D.
October 28, 2019

Much of modern environmental activism, which owes more to zealotry than evidence, has spawned a nasty perversion — let's call it the Pseudo-Scientific Method. As employed by environmental campaigners and the activist scientists who enable them, it has little to do with scientific discovery or the accumulation of knowledge; rather, it is "advocacy research" that creates "evidence" to support a pre-determined public policy — usually, inappropriate regulation or even bans.
