Hi John,
Today is the one-year anniversary of Tacoma Housing Now taking an empty public building for emergency pandemic housing for the homeless. Can you help me celebrate by donating $7 now, so I can keep fighting to end homelessness — in Congress? [[link removed]]
I’m incredibly proud of what we did. Thanks to this action and others, we got 200 shelter beds added in Tacoma, extended a cold-weather shelter until the end of winter, and got a part-time shelter made 24/7.
I got a lot of heat from rightwing extremists and smug centrists for our direct actions, as I was the spokesperson for Tacoma Housing Now and appeared on All Things Considered, the local NBC news channel, Newsweek, and many other local and national outlets representing the group. Right-wingers showed up to Tacoma Housing Now events armed with guns, shouted physical threats, and followed us and took down our license plates.
When the rightwing extremist Andy Ngo tweeted a video of me to his nearly 1 million followers, they published my address on Twitter along with rape and death threats. Friends of mine, to whom I will be forever grateful, spent 2 weeks on my front and back porch through the night protecting me. I moved out of my home of 5+ years and experienced eight months of intense housing instability and homelessness.
I would do it all again. People die in Tacoma on the streets every winter, and our actions probably saved lives. So it was worth it. In Congress, I pledge to continue doing direct action, because direct action gets the goods. I will never sell out. I need your help to win, though, since I don’t take big corporate checks. Can you chip in now to help me win? [[link removed]]

People asked us again and again if we would compromise. Our answer: give us a plan that ensures no more deaths. Then we’ll compromise.
That’s the attitude I’ll take to Congress. Every single precious life is worth more than the profits of real estate developers, private equity firms, and Wall Street. If you agree, please chip in here to help me win:
