Trigger Warning: White Supremacist Violence
John,
We're hurt, angry, and heartbroken.
Yesterday, Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges after he murdered two people and shot another during a racial justice protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin last summer.
Let's be clear about what happened: Rittenhouse crossed state lines to travel to Kenosha. Rittenhouse brought an AR-15 to a protest for racial justice and shot three people. The white judge continually showed bias toward Rittenhouse, and a nearly all-white jury found Rittenhouse not guilty.
It's white supremacy in action. And it's the system working as it was designed to.
It's why Black and Brown folks are brutalized and put in cages while white supremacist murderers walk free, and it's why our criminal legal system has allowed police to harm or kill Black and Brown folks with impunity.
If you are feeling infuriated and saddened by this grossly unjust verdict, you are not alone. Know that together, we will continue to work to dismantle systemic racism in our country. And know that, in our ongoing struggle against white supremacy, it's important to grieve, reflect, and take care of yourself.
Our work is to save Black lives, and our work continues.
In solidarity,
Team Cori
