What passed the House remains a major step forward. The largest step forward the U.S. has ever taken on climate, in fact.
John — we have some very good news:
The Build Back Better Act is heading to the Senate after passing the House.
The roughly $2 trillion Build Back Better Act allocates $550 billion in climate-related funding, the largest component of the bill. It includes historic investments in electric vehicle infrastructure, extended and new tax credits for clean energy, funding to help localities and tribes to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a fee on methane emissions, and much, much more. There are too many great climate components of this bill for us to list them all in one email.
We’ll be honest with you: The bill is not perfect. We would’ve liked to see bolder progress and even more robust climate initiatives in the legislation to aid the fight to save our planet.
That said, what passed the House remains a major step forward. The largest step forward the U.S. has ever taken on climate, in fact.
SEEC members of Congress fought hard to ensure that as many climate provisions as possible remained in the bill before going to the Senate. And these efforts were largely successful because of the support of grassroot advocates like you. But, our work is not over yet.
The final version of the bill sent to President Biden for his signature must contain these environmental protections. Climate change is the existential threat of our lifetime. Action is needed. Now is our moment.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
