Friend,
60% of Americans support Roe v. Wade and oppose states making it harder to access a safe abortion, according to a poll conducted by ABC News and the Washington Post.
But despite Roe v. Wade’s widespread support among Americans, the GOP is still running a coordinated campaign to restrict reproductive rights at the state level to appease their radical right-wing base.
Next month, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for an abortion case from Mississippi that threatens Roe v. Wade.
The Mississippi law in question bans abortion after 15 weeks, a significantly shorter window than the standard 22 week period. I’m extremely worried since the Court already allowed the Texas abortion ban to go into effect earlier this year.
With the Court’s conservative majority stacked with three right-wing justices appointed by Trump, including two illegitimate appointments, this case could be the tipping point in the GOP’s ongoing assault on abortion rights.
As the only U.S. Senator who worked at Planned Parenthood, I’m doing everything I can to protect Roe v. Wade during these dire times but I need your help.
With Mitch McConnell still abusing the filibuster and ruling from the Senate minority, we definitely won’t be able to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and codify Roe v. Wade into law before the midterm elections.
But if we defend and expand our slim Democratic majority in 2022, then we can pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, and protect it from future challenges from conservative state legislatures.
We need our Senate majority to ensure that only judges who support Roe get confirmed to the federal bench. And we need to build that majority to abolish the filibuster and expand the Supreme Court.
Friend, can you pitch in today to help me protect and expand our Democratic majority in the Senate? It’s the only way we can fully stop the GOP’s unrelenting assault on reproductive rights.
