On *Sunday*, Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine visited a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the University of Dayton Arena, hosted by Dayton Children's Hospital. The event was specifically for children ages 5 to 11 years old after?the first doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 pediatric vaccine formulation arrived in Ohio earlier this month. ?

To mark National Apprenticeship Week, Lt. Governor Jon Husted traveled to Sprint Electric, Inc. in Lima on *Tuesday* to meet with apprentices and learn about the company's use of TechCred to upskill their employees.

He also visited the?Carpenter Training Center in Rossford to hear from apprentices about their success earning great pay while learning their trade.

Lt. Governor Husted announces a new telecommunications tower technician program while at North Central State College.

While in Mansfield on *Wednesday* morning, Lt. Governor Husted, who serves as Director of the Governor?s Office of Workforce Transformation (OWT), announced the launch of Telecommunications Tower Technician Programs at North Central State College, Hocking College, and Vanguard-Sentinel Career & Technology Center. This announcement is part of a larger effort by OWT and BroadbandOhio to grow the workforce needed to expand broadband access and 5G in Ohio.

The ?Strengthening Ohio?s Broadband & 5G Workforce? Strategy, released in September, identifies the need for a skilled and prepared workforce to fill broadband and 5G jobs. The strategy outlines a plan for increasing broadband industry career awareness and creating more training and education programs in the state. The three Telecommunications Tower Technician Programs announced today will provide students with the knowledge and hands-on experience to start their careers in the telecommunications industry as a Telecommunications Tower Technician I.

?This is another example of how our administration is actively working to eliminate barriers to expanding Ohio?s broadband and 5G infrastructure,? said Lt. Governor Husted. ?The Telecommunications Tower Technician programs will help address the workforce gap by providing students with the in-demand skills and experience needed to get a high-paying job with clear opportunities for advancement.?

Also on *Wednesday* [ [link removed] ], Governor DeWine announced nearly $3.2 million in grant awards to combat social isolation and promote mental wellness amid the global COVID-19 pandemic. The funds, which represent a portion of Ohio?s Supplemental COVID-19 Block Grant, will help expand early childhood mental health consultation, strengthen maternal depression services, and increase healing and recovery supports for survivors of youth human trafficking.?

?Investing in our children is an investment in Ohio?s future,? said Governor DeWine. ?The pandemic has exacted a mental and emotional toll on children and families. These resources will help connect some of our most vulnerable youth to the programs and services they need to succeed and to live up to their full God-given potential.??

"Fran and I are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden death of our friend Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer. Sheriff Fischer was dedicated to the law enforcement profession where he spent a majority of his professional career.

"Fran and I first met Gene when he worked at the Xenia Police Department. What always struck me was how well loved he was by men and women who worked under him at the department, and he had that same strong relationship with the men and women who worked for him at the Sheriff's Office. Gene combined that respect and love with a real relationship with the community. Sheriff Fischer was doing community policing before those techniques even had a name.

"Fran and I extend our condolences to his wife, Gail; his daughter, Brittany; and his entire family."

On *Thursday [ [link removed] ]*,?Governor DeWine announced the selection of Ohio University?s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service to coordinate a new statewide center of excellence focused on building infrastructure and capacity to address Ohioans? mental, emotional, and behavioral health. Efforts will focus on mental health promotion and early intervention to prevent substance abuse or dependency while emphasizing cultural competency and accessibility.?

?We know that 75 percent of mental illness and substance use disorders begin before the age of 25,? said Governor DeWine. ?By bringing together high quality, evidence-based prevention practices, we can better provide our families and communities with the education, tools, and resources needed to help prevent overdose and suicide and encourage Ohioans to live their best and healthiest lives.??

On *Friday [ [link removed] ]*,?Governor DeWine announced that over $4.8 million in funding in federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) has been awarded to support the Ohio criminal justice system via multijurisdictional drug task forces, school resource officers, drug, veteran, and mental health courts, corrections projects, and justice technology initiatives.

In total,153 grants were awarded to 140 local agencies in 56 counties. The grants are administered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety?s Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS).

?We are deeply committed to providing resources to keep our communities and citizens safe and to support the important crime-prevention programs operated by local government agencies,? said Governor DeWine.

Ohio Vax-2-School prizes include 150, $10,000 scholarships, and five, $100,000 grand prize scholarships. The program will have a series of registration deadlines, and to be eligible for all prize drawings, Ohioans should register as soon as the first dose of the vaccine has been administered, ideally by the initial registration deadline of Sunday, Nov. 21. The deadlines are as follows:?
