The Trump Administration has made (yet another) dangerous move that pushes us all closer to the brink of the climate crisis:
Trump’s EPA has finalized a proposal to eliminate crucial limits on how much methane — a powerful greenhouse gas — the oil & gas industry is allowed to release into our air.
Here are the details: Methane — the main component of natural gas — is responsible for a quarter of the global warming we’re experiencing today. It is rapidly dialing up the climate crisis, and we cannot succeed in decelerating the danger without addressing this major problem.
But there’s hope: There are already existing technologies that can cut the oil & gas sector’s methane pollution problem by a whopping 75%. They just have to use them.
That’s why the previous administration put a rule into place that ensured they would — and created penalties if they failed to step up and clean up the mess they’re creating.
But President Trump wants to remove our protections, put us at risk, and give industry a free pass to pollute.
