At COP26, Boris Johnson said it’s ‘one minute to midnight on that doomsday clock and we need to act now’. If that’s how he feels his first course of action should be to shelve plans for new fossil fuel projects like the Cambo oil field and Cumbria coal mine. [1][2]

He can’t keep up this hypocrisy. Just this week the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, came out to oppose the Cambo oil field. While Boris Johnson is hiding behind big, empty words and refusing to show the climate leadership he keeps trying to convince us of - the Scottish First Minister is meeting the challenge. [3]

We can’t let him get away with saying one thing and doing another - so we’ve made a video to show the Prime Minister we see through his words and want real climate action. Can you watch and share it to expose his climate hypocrisy? The more people who see it, the harder it will be for Boris Johnson to keep getting away with it. 

“We’ve heard what the scientists said, and we’ve learnt not to ignore them” - said Boris Johnson, again, at COP. Well, the scientists have resoundingly said that we can’t approve any new fossil fuel projects, starting from now, if we’re to have a hope of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. So why is Boris Johnson trying to press ahead with plans for the Cambo oil field off the Shetlands and keeping the door open for a new coal mine in Cumbria? [4]

Together, the Cambo oil field and Cumbria coal mine would worsen the climate crisis that is already taking lives, leaving UK energy consumers and workers even more exposed to volatile fossil fuel markets, while sending a disastrous message to the rest of the world. 

While the UK flip flops between ambitious words and climate-wrecking action other nations are taking action - Costa Rica, Denmark and others have created the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance - a coalition that commits to set an end date for oil and gas exploration and production in alignment with the Paris Agreement. [5] After calling for ambitious action, Boris Johnson refused to take it by joining this coalition. 

But we can pressure Boris Johnson to live up to his climate rhetoric. We can expose his hypocrisy and force his hand to stop the Cambo oil field and Cumbria coal mine. Can you pile on the pressure and share this video? 

This year thousands of Greenpeace supporters in Scotland and across the UK signed petitions calling on Boris Johnson and Nicola Sturgeon to end new oil and gas. And earlier this week thousands more sent an email calendar invite to Boris Johnson to make sure stopping projects like Cambo and Cumbria are at the top of his To-Do-List after COP26.

Momentum is on our side. With the Scottish First Minister speaking out this week, Boris Johnson will be under pressure to act. Make sure you keep the pressure on.
