Today, Suriya and his family are safe and on the road to restoration from the exploitation they’ve endured. At only 10 years old, Suriya was taken from his mother to repay a debt his family owed to a local farmer. But after Suriya went to work, the man continually increased the amount owed by Suriya’s family.
To repay the falsely mounting debt, Suriya was forced to herd over 200 goats across many miles every day. He was beaten, starved and made to sleep with the goats, always fearful of the scorpions and snakes that also lived in the fields.
Finding this young child in the vast landscape of fields and hills was nearly impossible. But thanks to our casework partners, Suriya was found and brought to safety. Today, he is safe at home and full of dreams for his future.
