Our chapters are critical to energizing our grassroots base around the country. With events, educational programs, and mobilizations, their base-building efforts help AMP continue to grow. Our chapters in Minneapolis and Dallas organized phenomenal - standing room only - events to immerse the community in the age-old Palestinian tradition of olive-brining. The event in Dallas featured a talk by Shaikh Yasir Birjas on our tradition of olive brining and the importance of olives in the Quran and the Sunnah and Suad AbuAmara spoke about her story and experience in Palestine and introduced her book, “And The Children Did Not Forget.” A special thanks to the Valley Ranch Islamic Center for hosting the event! |
| | On November 14th, AMP-Minnesota hosted its 3rd annual Palestine Olive Harvest Season Event. The event, which has become a flagship project of the chapter, is put on as a way to connect the local community with an integral part of Palestinian life. The event included an exhibit showcasing pictures and items representing the olive harvest season. The program started with a presentation highlighting the importance of the olive harvest season on the Palestinian economy, the beautiful traditions that come with the harvest, and the challenges Palestinians face harvesting their olives under Israeli occupation. Attendees then got the opportunity to experience a part of the season for themselves by bringing their own jar of fresh olives. From cracking the olives to adding lemons and peppers, to topping the jars off with olive oil, attendees enjoyed the hands-on activity that allowed them to connect with such an important piece of Palestinian culture and resistance. The highlight of the event for the AMP-MN team was seeing so many kids getting to experience Palestine in a way that they had never experienced before. |
