Friend,

After months of negotiations — shaped in no small part by the unprecedented organizing and advocacy campaign that LCV and partners were able to run because of your support — LCV is thrilled to celebrate the passage of the Build Back Better Act by the U.S. House. With todays's vote, we are one step closer to enacting into law the strongest action the United States has ever taken to combat the climate crisis.

Once passed by the Senate and signed by President Biden, the Build Back Better Act will put the U.S. on a path to cutting our climate pollution in half by 2030, when coupled with additional executive and state-level action. With at least $555 billion in climate and equity investments included in the Act, we can expect in the years ahead to:
  • save $500 a year on household energy bills,
  • send our kids to school in clean electric school buses,
  • drive affordable electric cars,
  • breathe clean, healthy air,
  • see the creation of even more good-paying, family-sustaining union jobs within the fast-growing clean energy economy,
  • suffer fewer health problems caused by polluted air and water, and
  • stave off even more devastating, costly storms, droughts, wildfires, and other catastrophic weather events caused by climate change.
Build Back Better

The need for the Senate to pass this bill and send it to President Biden to sign into law couldn’t be more urgent. People across the country — especially people in communities of color and low-wealth communities who are hit first and worst by the climate crisis and harmed most by toxic pollution — need action now.

The impacts from climate change and fossil fuel pollution can cause heat stroke, force families to flee their homes, and spur the development of devastating health conditions, including lead poisoning, asthma, and cancer. The Build Back Better Act gets us closer to protecting our communities, our air, our lands, and our waters, while also investing in the jobs and technologies that will help families recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and transition to a more just and equitable society powered by clean energy.

As always, the climate and environmental justice progress that LCV and our partners have been able to secure thus far is because of your continued investment in our work. Thanks to you, LCV and our campaign partner Climate Power have invested over $48 million to run more than 185 ads in 33 House districts and seven states important to Senate support touting the opportunity around clean energy, jobs, and justice benefits of bold climate action. We’ve also been able to demonstrate strong, visible support for climate action on the ground in key Congressional districts and states around the country. Thus far, we’ve:
  • Knocked on nearly 375,000 doors,
  • Distributed more than 16,000 ‘Climate Action Now’ yard signs,
  • Secured the support of more than 14,000 small businesses, and
  • Activated nearly 22,000 LCV members to participate in our campaign.

This work has raised awareness among constituents across the country, especially in the districts and states of key members of Congress whose votes are needed to ensure passage of the Build Back Better Act and its climate, jobs, and justice provisions.

Your support directly powers LCV's ability to build a healthier, safer, and more just future for all. Thank you.

Sincerely,
