I’m Jaribu, the Executive Director at the Mississippi Workers’ Center for Human Rights, one of the first Groundwork Partner Organizations. Today, I wanted to connect with you to introduce myself and my organization and say thank you in advance for showing up for Mississippi.
For 25 years, the Mississippi Workers’ Center has been organizing and advocating for low-wage workers in the Mississippi Delta. We serve on the frontlines of some of the most entrenched injustices and oppressions in the entire United States and advocate for the radical idea that the working poor should be treated with dignity, humanity and respect.
We are on a mission to build equitable power in Mississippi. Every dollar of our Groundwork grant will be put to work immediately towards that mission. Donate now.
I started this organization fresh out of law school, with one small grant. We’ve never been fancy, but we’ve always been scrappy. We’ve taken on bad employers in the courtroom, faced down elected officials in hearing rooms, knocked doors from Greenville to Indianola, and broken bread time and again with workers in every corner of this region.
But it’s hard to get investment in Mississippi. It’s harder still to get investment in the Delta. Which is why this Groundwork Grant means so much.
And I’m proud to be in the position to promise this — every dollar you donate will be spread to its fullest impact. Will you chip in now?
Over the coming weeks and months, I will be sharing some ways for you to get involved with the Mississippi Workers’ Center. I look forward to working together!
In solidarity,
Jaribu
