John -- The House JUST passed the Build Back Better Act.
Kevin McCarthy tried to derail it with a long-winded speech last night, but this morning, the House got it done. Now we need the Senate to do their job and pass this bill.
We know that conservative Democrats like Joe Manchin and Kysten Sinema are going to fish for fresh excuses to block the bill. That’s why we need to elect working-class populist progressives like Charles Booker, Morgan Harper, and Malcolm Kenyatta to the Senate next year.
Will you chip in now to help us elect a PROGRESSIVE Senate majority? If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Word also broke late yesterday that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) determined the Build Back Better Act will actually REDUCE the deficit.
Yes, you read that right. Now, we want to be clear. The CBO score is a largely empty measurement of a bill’s financial risks or benefits. This agency consistently fails to predict the full benefits of government spending because they don’t count the extra money these programs put in people’s pockets -- your pockets, John.
But this time even the CBO had to concede: The bill is good, actually.
The House has done their job, now the Senate must do theirs and pass the Build Back Better Act NOW.
Congress was supposed to vote for this bill at the same time as the infrastructure bill. That’s the deal that President Biden made. All four BNC reps held firm to that promise, because they knew that Manchin, Sinema, and all the Republicans would find another excuse to block the vote.
Now millions of American families are hanging in the balance waiting on the Senate to pass universal childcare, expanded Medicare benefits, and a whole lot more.
It’s ridiculous, and it’s unacceptable. This is exactly why we need working-class people in office fighting for working-class interests.
While this bill is already a deep and disappointing compromise, it still represents a massive investment in American working families. We cannot wait. The Senate must act now.
Brand New Congress
