Earlier today, the House passed H.R. 5376, the Build Back Better Act. Along with the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework that was recently signed into law, the Build Back Better Act would help move our country towards meeting its climate goals, create millions of good-paying jobs, and grow our economy by investing in people.

PolicyLink has fought alongside its grassroots partners to ensure inclusion of critical investments in the nation’s water infrastructure, housing, and distressed communities. We are grateful for Chairman Tom Carper’s (D-DE) leadership resulting in the inclusion of a low-income water assistance program within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). And for Chairwoman Maxine Water’s (D-CA) leadership championing the housing provisions of the legislation, and securing $3 billion for the Community Restoration and Revitalization Fund (CRRF) - a new grant program at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to invest in community-led civic infrastructure projects in distressed communities.

In a statement, Michael McAfee

, praised the House’s passage of the bill, and called on the Senate to act:

“The Build Back Better Act is one of the most significant bills in the past 50 years. This legislation is a long overdue investment in workers, families, communities, and our planet. Now the Senate must step up and pass this bill to ensure the federal government finally begins to serve the 100 million economically insecure people in this country.

While much work remains to ensure our recovery centers equity and that resources reach the hardest-hit workers, businesses, and communities, the Build Back Better Act represents a down payment on a more equitable future for all.”
