A second grader in my congregation has a flair for style. Who knows if it’s good style, her style, or both? She just delights in combining a wild assortment of plaids, stripes, and contrasting colors. Half the time her socks don’t match. For the better part of a year, her mother wasn’t thrilled with these chaotic combos. Then one day, Mom realized that what mattered was that her daughter was dressing herself and feeling good about it. Matching socks, it turns out, isn’t the biggest deal in life.
