Every 10 years, states redraw their legislative and congressional district maps following the census.

10 years ago, Pennsylvania’s Republican legislature gerrymandered the districts in their favor — meaning they drew district lines in their favor to ensure they’d win future elections.

They didn’t get away with it. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned their maps in 2018.

But now, 10 years later, Republican legislators get a new chance to gerrymander districts — and they’re even more motivated to rig them in their favor.

We can’t let them put their thumb on the scale. The new map will affect the House of Representatives, our local elections.

When Republicans rig maps in their favor, they win more and more elections. Then, they easily pass extremist laws like banning abortion, rolling back voting rights, and gutting access to health care.

We need fair maps to make sure that Republicans don’t rig the next decade of elections in their favor.

The bottom line is this: Voters should choose their elected officials. Not the other way around.
