‘Covid-19 safety - We encourage you take care of yourself and others by:

Music to our ears! 🎵

camp

Your local Berridge Councillors were delighted to award a grant to enable Nottingham Music Service to run day camps.

Children from Forest Fields and Claremont Primary Schools and Djanogly Sherwood Academy learnt how to play music by ear, read music and learn ensemble skills that helped them play as part of a whole orchestra or ‘monster band’ at the end of the camp.

The camp took place in the beautiful and inspiring rehearsal halls and grounds of the University of Nottingham’s Music Department. One school staff member said: ‘Our children all left feeling very motivated and with lots of musical skills and understanding’.

Clean laundry for all in Berridge

laundry

Thanks to funding from Castle Cavendish, Mesopotamia have been able to launch their laundry project. After going into many damp homes delivering food supplies and having people turn up at the charity shop for fresh clean clothes, the team realised that washing and drying facilities were a luxury to many residents.

Residents can now book a slot, wash and dry their clothes and have a drink and a chat while they are waiting for the machines to finish.

For some this has been life changing. Mesopotamia has seen people who use this facility go on to get jobs or accommodation. It is not just about having clean clothes but the confidence and pride that goes with it.  To book a washing machine and dryer slot please call 0115 9780 444

You said, we did! Cleaning up Berridge ward

bin

Who has spotted our new bins being installed along Nottingham Road?

These bins are larger than the old bins and have a 240 litre wheelie bin hidden inside. This means that as well as needing to be emptied less often we are also reducing our plastic waste by not using bin bags.

The old bins are also being recycled by using them to replace worn out bins in other parts of the ward.

Saving lives with a local defibrillator

defib

Berridge Councillors have recently used their ward funding to install a post and electricity supply at Carrington Point after a resident got in touch and asked for help.

Alan Taylor has been working with Councillor Kandola for over a year, and has raised money to purchase a defibrillator but needed support to get it connected to the network.

The defibrillator can be used by anyone to save lives. We hope it will never be needed, but in the event of an emergency, you can call 999 and the operator will supply a code so that the life-saving procedure can be carried out.

Bees and blooms for Silverdale 🐝

It is time for a Silverdale Park makeover! Unfortunately bad weather cancelled our event with the Pythian Club at the end of October, but we would still like to hear your views on what you would like to see at the park in the future.

Ideas could include more bee friendly flowers and a resident vegetable growing area. Would you like to get involved? Not only in shaping the future of the park but also with gardening and growing produce. Training would be available and we can’t wait to see your ideas turned into reality.

For further information please contact any of your local Councillors or your Neighbourhood Development Officer.

Don't get caught out this Christmas

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children

  • Look for the CE or UKCA mark: These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
  • Button-batteries can kill:  Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
  • Check age restrictions: Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

⚠️ Scam warning ⚠️

Warning – criminals are using the NHS Covid Pass and pretending to be the NHS as a way to target the public by convincing them to hand over money, financial details and personal information.

For information on how to get your free NHS COVID Pass, visit www.nhs.uk/nhscovidpass.

On scams generally - remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. These include festive getaways at very low prices and ‘easy’ ways to make money, like cryptocurrency and investments. Take a moment to check Citizens Advice’s Online Scams Helper to protect yourself.
