Dear John,
According to the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, the global economy must be completely reinvented by 2050 in order to eliminate net greenhouse gas pollution and hold global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. What this means is that we have a very short window—30 years in fact—to implement the vital solutions needed to curtail irreversible destruction to our planet.
Just last week, the Trump administration officially announced the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. This was a shortsighted and irresponsible decision, but solutions still exist that can ensure the country does not fall behind on climate action. States, cities, and businesses across the country are pledging to do the work it takes to create sustainable, innovative and inclusive climate policies—policies that prioritize people and the planet over the fossil fuel industry.
