John,
Those in power stacked the cards against the people of Texas when they passed SB 1 this summer, a bill designed to subvert democracy and keep hundreds of thousands of Texans from participating in our elections.
It’s going to make our jobs on this campaign a lot tougher. But here’s what gives me hope that we can build a movement powerful enough to overcome the challenge:
In our effort to stop the GOP’s voter suppression bill last summer, Texans inspired the rest of the nation with our courage and tenacity. We held some of the largest voting rights rallies that this state has seen in decades and led this nation’s democratic response to the authoritarian threat prompted by the Big Lie.
Now, it’s time to unseat those who seek to cement their grip on power by undermining our elections and silencing the voices of Texans.
That’s going to take building the largest grassroots movement this state has ever seen. Together, we can mobilize historic turnout even in the face of these new, unjust, and undemocratic barriers to voting in Texas.
So please, join us by making a donation to our campaign today. We need you in this fight.
This summer, I traveled across Texas to bring as many people as possible into the conversation about the future of our democracy. We visited counties red and blue, big and small — like Rains and Midland, Harris and Dallas, and Bowie and Jefferson — where it was clear that Republicans and Democrats alike can find common ground in their belief in the right of every Texan to participate in our elections and have a say in our future.
The kind of extreme policies and incompetence we’re seeing now in Texas — on Covid, abortion, guns, schools, and even our electricity grid — are the result of leaders who have stopped listening to the people who elected them into office. Leaders who are more focused on catering to their donors and the fringes of their parties, instead of serving working families across Texas.
We have to hold them accountable and elect leaders who will listen to and care about what the people of Texas need.
When the stakes are this high, none of us can afford to sit out.
Thank you for being a part of this team,
Beto
