There are four important reasons to read this email:? ? ? ? ? This is it, friend. After campaigning for months, we are now anticipating a vote in the House as soon as tonight on a bill ? the Build Back Better Act ? that represents the most significant action on climate, clean energy, and environmental justice in our nation's history.
We've fought hard for this moment ? and for our chance to pass legislation that helps put the U.S. on an equitable path to cut climate pollution in half by 2030. This year alone, LCV's teams have knocked on more than 350,000 doors. Distributed over 16,000 "Climate Action Now'' yard signs. Met with more than 13,000 businesses who've displayed support in their windows. Held hundreds of events with members of Congress and local leaders.
In the final hours before this vote, I'm asking again for your help. The fight to pass this bill has lasted months longer than anticipated. LCV has kept organizers in key states across the country to put pressure on members of Congress. We've kept ads on the air. Keeping our campaigns running from here ? it depends on our members.
If you can, please, renew your membership to LCV today. All it takes is $5, and a group of donors will triple your contribution ? [link removed]
Even as the House vote nears ? one of the most important Congressional votes we've ever campaigned for ? our teams are also helping to advance other major environmental efforts. As if the Build Back Better Act wasn't enough ? here are four other reasons your support is so important right now.
REASON #1: On Tuesday, the Biden administration announced that it is considering new protections against oil and gas leasing around Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico. Indigenous communities have been working for generations to secure long-term protections for this sacred landscape and cultural resources ? and are now seeing a firestorm of opposition from Republicans as well as the oil and gas industry. We need your help to support our lobbying and communications campaign to press the Biden administration to follow through and secure lasting protections for Chaco Canyon in the face of industry attacks ? [link removed]
REASON #2: Chaco Canyon is only the latest in what we expect to be many high-stakes battles to protect cherished public lands and also help our country reach a much-needed goal of protecting 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030. We're preparing now to support a major organizing and advocacy effort to encourage President Biden to designate Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in Nevada ? spanning 380,000 acres that includes sacred Indigenous sites and biodiverse wildlife in the Mojave Desert. Winning this campaign is possible, but it's only going to happen if the environmental movement shows up in a major way ? [link removed]
REASON #3: Alongside others in the environmental movement, we're pushing the Biden administration to swiftly impose the most stringent emissions standards possible to put cleaner heavy-duty vehicles on the road and reduce truck pollution. This is a fight we can win ? and it will make a huge difference in cleaning up air pollution, especially in low-wealth and communities of color who suffer the most from breathing dirty air. If you're on board, I hope you'll pitch in ? even $5 helps ? [link removed]
REASON #4: Because a group of donors has agreed to triple match every contribution through the end of the month. Donate now, and your contribution will go even further ? [link removed]
Bottom line, you have incredible power friend. Right here and right now, you can make a huge difference in the fight to curb climate change, protect treasured lands, and advance environmental justice for communities hit hardest by pollution and extreme weather.
But the need here is urgent. With the most important climate change legislation in a generation expected to see a vote as soon as tonight in the House ? we can't let up the pressure now. I truly hope we'll hear from you today.
Thank you. We'll be in touch soon with more updates.
Onward,
