As a former police officer and a proud gun owner myself, I am not afraid to say that our country desperately needs to fix our broken gun laws.

Let me be crystal clear: No, I don’t mean taking away our 2nd Amendment rights. I am talking about passing simple, common-sense gun safety legislation.

Believe it or not, over half of Americans agree that we need stricter gun laws in this country. Still, greedy GOP politicians would rather take marching orders from the NRA and gun lobbyists than reach across the aisle to solve the problem.

These lawmakers don’t care that 38,826 Americans die every year of gun violence or that this epidemic puts children and teenagers in hospitals in record numbers around the country. They’re only interested in collecting big money donations from their special interest pals.

I am sick and tired of waiting for change, which is why I am running for Congress to get the job done. But until that day, I am asking that we work together to demand Washington make progress NOW.
