This Halloween, you know what really scares me? When our leaders cozy up to huge industries that have profited at the expense of ordinary people, just as Rep. Neal did this week when he threw a birthday party—a birthday party—for AIG, one of the main culprits of the 2008 financial collapse that devastated communities all over the nation, including those in the First District.

This extravagant party goes beyond Neal's typical back-door meetings, where corporate donors get to sway his favor. And displays like this make me even prouder not to accept a cent of corporate PAC money. Last quarter, we raised $216,955 together from 2,454 individual donors—proving that running a people-powered, 100% grassroots campaign is absolutely the way to go. And that special interests have no place in our politics.
