Bloomberg Philanthropies Coronavirus Response

John,

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there has been hope that we could one day fight COVID simply by taking a pill.

Among the first to be developed and tested is called Molnupiravir. It's a hard-to-pronounce (but easy-to-swallow) antiviral tablet that, so far, has proven effective at reducing severe disease and hospitalizations.

Dr. Andrew Pekosz, an immunologist and a professor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, discussed the potential of the new drug for our Road to Recovery series. Will you take a moment to watch?

Until now, the only effective antiviral treatment had to be administered through a shot or IV. Having a widely available COVID pill could be a game changer in the fight against the disease -- and another important scientific advance in the effort to end the pandemic.

Watch our Road to Recovery video to hear how it works, find out who has access to the pill today, and what it might mean for treating and potentially preventing the spread of COVID in the future.
