John,

Last session, Republicans in the Kansas Legislature sent a devastating message to the state as they encroached on our democracy like we've never seen before – they provided tax handouts to multinational corporations instead of supporting vulnerable Kansans; doubled down on voter suppression bills to criminalize healthy parts of our democracy; lowered the age for concealed carry while making it easier for felons to access guns; and overturned a record number of Governor Laura Kelly's vetoes.

And the fight isn't over yet. Heading into 2022, Kansas Democrats face unprecedented challenges due to Republican opposition. Here is a quick summary of the road ahead:

*
Republican
Gerrymandering *
Kansas
Republicans
received
a
wave
of
public
outrage
after
their
Redistricting
Town
Hall
blitz
that
effectively
limited
the
voices
of
the
people
and
undermined
the
democratic
redistricting
process.
Republicans
continue
to
lack
any
ounce
of
transparency
as
the
redistricting
process
continues
-
and
Kansans
have
a
real
fear
that
their
lawmakers
are
choosing
their
voters,
not
the
other
way
around.

*
Reproductive
Rights
at
Stake *
In
August
2022,
on
the
primary
ballot,
Republicans
placed
a
constitutional
amendment,
called
Value
Them
Both,
that
would
effectively
remove
Kansans'
constitutional
right
to
an
abortion.
The
amendment
would
give
the
Republican
legislative
majority
the
power
to
restrict
this
essential
health
care
service
however
they
please,
and
drastically
reduce
Kansans'
reproductive
rights.

*
Voter
Suppression *
After
a
slew
of
voter
suppression
laws
passed
by
Kansas
Republicans
in
2021,
over
30,000
Kansans
are
disenfranchised
in
the
upcoming
elections.
The
unnecessary,
strict
voting
laws
make
it
harder
to
vote
and
nearly
impossible
for
voting
rights
organizations
to
do
their
jobs.
The
bills
even
go
as
far
as
to
criminalize
individuals
if
they
are
subjectively
perceived
as
election
officials.
Kansas
Republican
leaders
consistently
fight
to
hinder
democracy,
rather
than
expand
it.
