Will you help?

Dear John,

You might have read my previous message about the devastating violence threatening the lives of innocent people in north-east Syria. With this email I would like to update you on our work in the region.

My UNHCR colleagues in Syria and neighbouring Iraq are helping tens of thousands of frightened families who had no other option but to flee from the shelling and escalating violence.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, we have been able to provide emergency life-saving aid to more than 95,000 displaced people in camps, host communities and communal shelters in north-east Syria so far.

We have also established a new refugee camp in Bardarash and a new transit site in Gawilan in northern Iraq where over 12,000 newly arrived Syrian refugees have been provided with family tents, hot meals, water, medical and psychosocial care and protection.

But the scale of this emergency is immense. An estimated 200,000 people have already been forced to flee inside Syria, and over 12,000 have crossed into Iraq to seek safety. Most of them are women and children, some unaccompanied. Numbers are only expected to rise.

Please make an urgent donation today to help us reach more Syrian families affected by this crisis.

We are determined to do everything in our power to provide protection and hope to those in need and we rely on your help to get there.

Please support our emergency appeal to ensure Syrian families who have lost everything to conflict can reach safety and access life-saving assistance.

With gratitude,

Astrid van Genderen Stort

BREAKING: Increasing violence threatens the security of hundreds of thousands

As you have likely seen in the news, the situation in North-Eastern Syria is escalating and more Syrian families are at risk of being uprooted, caught up in military action and violence, and forced to leave everything behind.

UNHCR is closely monitoring the situation and we are ready to provide life-saving protection and assistance to people in need, especially women and children.

We strongly echo the concerns of the UN Secretary-General in calling for:
  • maximum restraint from all parties
  • the protection of civilians
  • the protection of infrastructure, such as schools, homes and hospitals
  • guaranteed, unimpeded and safe access to deliver relief to those in need

As the Syrian conflict continues, more than 5 million Syrians have already fled the country and 6.2 million remain displaced inside Syria.

UNHCR is on the ground inside Syria and across the region, delivering life-saving support to displaced families, including medicine, water and safe shelter.
In the face of this new crisis, the needs for protection, assistance and shelter are increasing rapidly. Will you help?

It's only thanks to the support of people like you that we are able to respond to emergency situations like this and save people's lives.

Thank you.
