Federal government spending is out of control. The Parliamentary Budget Officer predicts it will be at least 2070 before the federal budget is balanced.

Yes, almost fifty years from now!

This could have been avoided.

A new Fraser Institute study out today finds that if the federal government had introduced even a modest rule imposing more discipline on the growth in government spending starting in 2015 – even one that allowed for all the COVID emergency spending – the federal budget could have been balanced by 2025/26 instead.

Unfortunately, the government chose to run up debt well before the pandemic struck, which is why we find ourselves in the position we're in.
