What's in the bill for Colorado?

  • $3.7 billion to improve highways and $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs over five years.
  • $916 million over five years to improve public transportation options across the state.
  • A minimum of $100 million to help provide broadband coverage across Colorado, including providing access to the at least 85,000 Coloradans who currently lack it.
  • 1,282,000 (or 22% of) Coloradans will also be eligible for the Affordability Connectivity Benefit, which will help low-income families afford internet access.
  • $688 million over five years to improve water infrastructure across the state and ensure that clean, safe drinking water is a right in all communities.
  • $35 million over five years to protect against wildfires.
  • $57 over five years to support the expansion of an EV charging network in the state. We in Colorado will also have the opportunity to apply for the $2.5 billion in grant funding dedicated to EV charging in the bill.

Biden's American Rescue Plan

Still Delivering for Colorado

Passed in June, Democrats' American Rescue Plan is Still Delivering for Colorado Families!

How the Child Tax Credit is impacting Colorado families

Denver Voice

Money is often tight in the Varwig household, which includes three children under the age of five, and a grandmother who needs live-in care. So, when federal lawmakers expanded the Child Tax Credit (CTC) program through the American Rescue Plan back in June, Amber Varwig, the family matriarch, thought it would be worth it to apply to boost the family budget.

“For a woman in my tax bracket, so to speak, the money can be life-changing,” Varwig told the Denver VOICE.

The COVID-related relief program provides payments of $300 per child under six years old and $250 per child over six. CTC payments are made in monthly installments by the Treasury Department and began going out in July. However, expansion is scheduled to sunset at the end of the year.

Deputy Treasury Secretary Adewale Adeyemo described the program as one that is “meaningfully improving the lives of children in every corner of the country,” while Sen. Michael Bennet said the program proves that “we don’t have to accept childhood poverty as a permanent feature of our economy.”

The Treasury has distributed more than $61 billion to families as of October 15, according to agency data. More than $1 billion of that total has gone to Colorado households over the first four months of the expanded program.

Approximately $256 million in CTC payments went to 600,000 Colorado families with more than one million eligible children in October. Families received an average payment of $428, which is slightly below the national average, according to data from the Treasury.

Colorado Conversations

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 20 @ 10:00AM

Virtual Town Hall on Criminal Justice Reform

Our criminal justice system has been broken for too long. The policies in place have been far too punitive on some while letting others go scot-free. Ultimately, rather than rehabilitation, our criminal justice system has made it impossible for those who have earned a second chance to be productive members of society to get that chance. Some much-needed reforms in areas like policing and the prison industrial complex have happened, but more needs to be done.

In our second to last Colorado Conversations virtual town hall for 2021 on Saturday, November 20 @ 10:00AM, we gather criminal justice reform experts and elected officials to discuss how our criminal justice system has failed, what has been done to address these systemic issues, and what more can be done to fix it.

David's Messaging Minute!

Working families have been seeing costs go up. Inflation has been made worse by the pandemic, corporate greed, and price gouging. While Democrats are delivering solutions to increase wages and cut costs, Republicans' only priority is tax breaks for billionaires.

Thanks to factors like Trump's idiotic tariffs and the pandemic, the cost of living is going up, and it's hurting Colorado families. As Joe Biden and Democrats both in Washington and the State Capitol continue the work to bring down costs and support low- and middle-income families, here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to Republicans' favorite new talking point -- inflation.

  • Americans believe a range of factors are responsible for rising prices, including corporate greed and corporations taking advantage of consumers. There are a range of factors Americans believe are responsible for rising prices and among the most convincing are those that highlight the greed of corporations taking advantage of consumers as we recover from the pandemic. The following messages are viewed as convincing by more than three in five Americans, and importantly, at least seven in ten “economically persuadable” Americans (those who currently disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the economy, but are supportive of the Build Back Better economic agenda).
  • As the economy reopens and demand surges, big corporations have taken advantage, squeezing consumers for profit and raising costs that everyday Americans face. Their corporate greed is the reason American families and small businesses are seeing costs in their everyday go up (66 percent convincing overall; 72 percent convincing among economically persuadable Americans); and,
  • As the economy continues to recover from the pandemic, corporations are trying to take advantage of consumers: oil and gas companies are artificially driving up the price of gasoline while pharmaceutical companies are squeezing those in need on the cost of prescription drugs (63 percent convincing overall; 70 percent convincing among economically persuadable Americans).

NEW TODAY: Economists and analysts in leading rating agencies say the Biden Infrastructure Bill AND the Build Back Better Act won't increase inflation. In fact, according to Moody's, they'll 'take the edge off of inflation'. Click here to read!

And remember...
