Dear Supporter,
|
|
|
His mother, Ana, could no longer afford the ever-increasing financial strain. To protect her family, she made the impossible decision to leave Luis with his grandmother and go to America to earn money to send back home.
When Luis was only eleven, his grandmother grew too feeble to care for him. And at this age, boys are at risk of being recruited by gangs or murdered if they refuse to join.
Ana sent for him and he made the dangerous journey to America.

When Luis arrived at the U.S. border, the eleven-year-old was taken into federal custody. |
 |
He didn't know anyone. He didn't speak any English yet. He didn't even know where his mother was. He was a stranger in a strange land. But he was not alone. |

Luis had you. Your support for Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) provided the assistance Luis and his mother needed after their agonizing separation.
And today, I'm asking you to make a generous gift to help more children, like Luis, who desperately need a chance at a new life.
Your donation helps to reunite families and connect them with the resources they need to settle into a safe, welcoming community.
Your generous contribution is what makes it all possible. Thank you for doing what you can today, and for keeping Luis and Ana in your prayers tonight.
Sincerely,
Kay Bellor
Vice President of Programs
P.S. Help more families like Luis and Ana by making a generous contribution right now. |
