October 31, 2019: A National Retail Federation survey found that 172 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween today. Spending on costumes, candy, and more will total $8.8 billion.^[1]

That total includes $3.2 billion spent buying costumes, a number boosted by the fact that 29 million people plan to dress their pets in costume.^[1]

Sixty-nine percent (69%) will be handing out candy at a collective price of $2.6 billion.^[1]
