This Giving Tuesday, help us fight back against anti-democratic bills. Democracy can't wait.
Dear John,
A disturbing wave of election subversion is making its way through state legislatures.
In Arizona, the state senate commissioned a blatantly partisan review that sought to undermine election results. The Georgia legislature passed a bill to remove the elected secretary of state — who stood up to requests to overturn the 2020 election results — as chair of the state's elections board. And legislators in Missouri and Oklahoma introduced extreme bills that would have allowed them to directly overturn legitimate election results.
Taken one by one, these bills and laws are antidemocratic and diminish the legitimate voice of voters in many states. Taken together, they reveal a larger election sabotage scheme that threatens our very democracy.
Every day we see the need to take on critical fights for racial justice, reproductive rights, access to healthcare, and so much more. But our voice in all of these fights is deeply undermined by the ongoing attacks on our right to vote.
At the Brennan Center, we’re fighting back. We’re in the halls of Congress advocating for the Freedom to Vote Act — the most significant democracy reform bill in a half century. The bill would specifically target these antidemocratic election sabotage threats and protect every person’s right to vote no matter where they live.
As we champion both the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and fight back against election sabotage schemes, we hope we can count on your support this Giving Tuesday.
