Dear John,
It all started with a napkin and a God-given desire to help the next generation of law students.
You see, long before he helped found Alliance Defending Freedom, Alan Sears wanted to start a law student training program.
As a law student in the 70s, Alan had experienced the hostility directed at conservative law students and their values. He knew that something needed to be done to encourage and help these talented young people.
One day, the vision for this training program came to Alan’s mind. All he had was a pen, a napkin, and a prayer as he quickly drafted a basic sketch on that napkin of what the program would look like.
Thanks to God’s blessing and the prayers and financial support of people like you, that simple note on a napkin has become the Blackstone Legal Fellowship.
Now, 20 years later, Blackstone has trained over 2,100 Christian law students. Praise God!
These law students are some of the brightest minds in the next generation. Many come from top law schools, and many go on to get competitive jobs in the private and public sector. But most importantly, these law students share your love for our God-given freedoms, John.
And, with the training Blackstone provides, these young people will have the tools they need to defend our freedoms as attorneys in the future.
This is an important program because, right now, freedom is under threat. |

For decades, activists with a far-left agenda have been changing our courts.

Shifting law and culture—one law student at a time
The Blackstone Legal Fellowship is shifting law and culture—one law student at a time. Take Andrew for example.
Andrew participated in Blackstone in the early 2000s. He graduated from one of the top 25 law schools in the country. Then he went on to earn a job working for an appeals judge and eventually joined one of the 10 most prestigious law firms in the country.
Despite all of his success, Andrew knew he was called to do more. Like you, John, Andrew loves his country and wants to pass along a legacy of freedom to future generations.
Now, Andrew is a tenured professor at a law school. There, he shares the lessons of freedom he learned through Blackstone by teaching law students about the importance of protecting our God-given freedoms.
Thanks to the resources provided through the Blackstone Legal Fellowship, two generations of attorneys were given the legacy of freedom—Andrew and all of his law students.
But “Andrew” is a pseudonym. We need to protect his identity. Because Blackstone has been so successful, there is a concerted effort by some who oppose freedom to identify participants of Blackstone and oppose their advancement.
John, it is only with God’s blessing and continued financial support from people like you that we can train young people like Andrew to use their legal talents for good, and to fight and win for freedom.
The question is not whether these law students are willing to continue the fight, but will they be ready for what’s to come?
