Hi John,
Have you ever looked at a friend and just KNEW they would make an amazing candidate for public office?
Maybe they're always organizing the friend group, or they really REALLY care about the school system in Washington, or they can't stop talking about criminal justice reform.
In fact, RFS alum Jasmine Crockett was a lot like that! Before her law career, and long before being Texas State Rep, she recalls needing an advocate when she and her friends were targets of racist harassment on campus. "I wanted to be that hero who could assist people at a very confusing and difficult time," Crockett said. "I went ahead and took that mantel." She crafted her policy positions by living her life -- just like your friends.
Whoever you're picturing, now is the PERFECT time to encourage them to run for office -- and not just run, but run with enough support to win. That's what we're here for.
Nominate a friend to Run for Something. We won't tell them you nominated them. But we will reach out to talk to them about seriously thinking about a run.
It doesn't take a lot to get white dudes to run for office. They look in the mirror and see a president because well… most presidents have looked like them.
When you're young, a woman, transgender, nonbinary, Black, Latinx, Indigenous, have a disability, or any other marginalized identity, it can be daunting to think about running. You might be the first person who looks, or thinks, or talks like you to run for office in your community -- and that's exactly why it's so important!
Take a minute and nominate your friends to Run for Something here. We'll take it from there.
Having a friend say "you can do this! I think you'd be great!" is empowering and
critical to bringing much-needed diversity to all levels of government. Support your friends so we can support each other as we mold a more inclusive future.
Can't wait to meet your friend(s),
