Friends,

As you know, our organization recently went through a name change. We used to be California League of Conservation Voters. Now we are California Environmental Voters because it's clear through public opinion research that the word “environment” is the most powerfully supported and understood term in our movement.

The name California Environmental Voters better unifies all of our stakeholders towards our mission to build the political will to combat the climate crisis and protect the environment by organizing communities, turning out voters, and holding lawmakers accountable to bold, equitable action.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Okay, can you explain why the name California Environmental Voters?

Voters across the state and party lines agree – protecting our environment and solving the climate crisis are top priorities. We’re going to need everyone in the fight against the climate crisis, and California Environmental Voters allows us to reach a wider audience of members, donors, and activists.

2. Is conservation still part of the mission?

Absolutely. Land and water conservation remains a critical priority for our organization. However, if we focus solely on conservation, we won’t be able to protect our public lands or natural resources. Because of the climate crisis, conservation alone is no longer enough to save them.

3. Do you still have a relationship with the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), based in Washington, DC?

While our organization has always been independent of LCV, we have -- and will continue to maintain-- our partnership with LCV and the nationwide network of similar state organizations.

We are more determined than ever to build on the organization's legacy to protect the environment and fight the climate crisis.
