Fulfillment Fund

Dear John,

It is with a heavy heart that we share that our founder, Dr. Gary Gitnick, passed away on November 4, 2021, surrounded by his closest loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially for his unwavering passion for serving others, whether through medicine or education.

Today, Fulfillment Fund had planned to launch our end-of-year giving campaign — which some of you may have already received in the mail. Galvanizing our community in order to provide meaningful programs for students was something that meant a lot to Gary. For years, he brought people in from every corner of his universe to learn about the work of Fulfillment Fund. When he took on the Chair Emeritus role two years ago, he focused much of his efforts in the same way — marshaling support from those he knew to encourage and inspire our students.

Gary’s impact and legacy are tremendous. Thousands of students have had more opportunities in life because of his tenacity and passion in founding this incredible organization and making sure it could be sustained for 4+ decades. When you asked him what he loved most about Fulfillment Fund, he would always say it was our students and all the good they are doing in the world. It truly gratified him to know that his own humble beginnings would serve as the inspiration to serve many others like him to achieve and contribute back to uplift their families and communities.

To honor his incredible legacy, Fulfillment Fund has created the Gary Gitnick Memorial Fund, dedicated to helping students reach their fullest potential and achieve their educational and career goals. We will miss Dr. Gitnick dearly, but his vision for supporting students with fewer opportunities in life continues through the passionate work of our team.

In 1977, Dr. and Mrs. Gary Gitnick founded Fulfillment Fund to support the dreams of youth in need. Little did they know their creation would empower tens of thousands of students across Los Angeles. After hosting a holiday party for children with disabilities, Dr. Gitnick created a small mentoring organization, knowing how much he had gained from positive role models. Fulfillment Fund was born and became the first of its kind. Learn more about how the Gitnicks created Fulfillment Fund.
