John,
We’ve all seen the heartbreaking videos and commercials of hungry and starving children. Now, we’re on the verge of seeing many more.
Recent media reports are highlighting how Southern Madagascar is set to experience the first climate change-induced famine in modern history
The region is in the midst of its worst drought in 40 years. A lack of rain has depleted food sources and dried-up rivers. Climate change has led to sandstorms rendering former arable land infertile. Now, widespread malnutrition is affecting over one million people (that’s more than the population of Rhode Island).
The U.S. and other developed nations are late to taking action. As far back as 2009, they committed to delivering a climate fund of $500 billion to help poorer countries tackle climate change. It’s now 12 years later, and the U.S. and its counterparts still haven’t achieved this goal and currently aren’t on track to do so until 2023.
John, our leaders aren’t fully investing in helping the developing world fight climate change because they don’t believe it’s important to the American people.
Here’s what we want to know: Will you prove them wrong? Do you care about preventing climate-related famine?
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
