I recently shared with you our first round of official Groundwork Partner Organizations. Each will be provided a grant from GWP that is multi-year and unrestricted.
I know you may not be familiar with the traditional grant process or how grants like these are typically provided, so I wanted to take a moment to dig into what makes Groundwork’s grants to our partner organizations so unique.
Bottom line: These first grants are our mission in action. And we are confident our first official partner organizations will make good use of the resources. If you want to chip in, you can do so here. [[link removed]]
Now, let’s dive into some of the specifics about the Groundwork grant:
1. Our grants are multi-year commitments. This came up time and again with the organizers we spoke to. They need resources they can count on, that won’t disappear right after a big election. With your generous support, we are committing to these organizations through 2024.
2. They are also hyperlocal . These are the people who know their communities best and who have earned the trust of their neighbors. That makes them powerful changemakers.
3. This last point is really what makes our grants special. They are unrestricted . Lots of funders give grants with endless stipulations on how exactly you can use their money. But we trust the organizers to use them as they see fit and will not dictate how or where the money is spent. This ensures our partners have the most flexibility to use the resources because we know they will know better than us where the dollars can make the biggest impact!
We are hitting the ground running and providing a grant to each of our first partner organizations — United Women of Color in Alabama, the Black Voter Impact Initiative in West Virginia, and the Mississippi Workers’ Center — immediately.
But we need your help. We still have a goal of raising another $28,000 by the end of this week. Can I count on you? Here’s the link to give now.
