John,
It’s no secret that this country hasn’t valued Black lives.
It’s no secret that the current, armed police only approach to public safety is a threat to Black lives.
It’s no secret that the current system doesn’t work for anyone or anything besides white supremacy.
It’s also no secret that we’ve been putting our people-power to work.
Over the past few months, we’ve worked alongside Rep. Cori Bush. Thanks to her paving the way to new public safety through her legislation, the People’s Response Act, we’re one step closer to centering community, mental health, and care at the heart of public safety.
The People’s Response Act will advance the non-carceral paradigm for community safety that we are all seeking to build.
Today, we’re beyond excited to be joining forces once again with Color of Change, Essie Justice Group, Movement For Black Lives, and Civil Rights Corps, and Rep. Cori Bush for the first-ever People’s Response Act Day.
Today is a day where we show what centering a community in public safety can and will look like if we pass the PRA. Virtually tune into our events to become a part of this historic fight for our community’s safety, health, and wellbeing >>

Tens of thousands of people across the entire country have called for the People’s Response Act to be passed.
We’ve made thousands of calls to people in Congress, and have written hundreds of letters to representatives voicing our demands for a new approach to public safety. The time is long overdue, and we don’t plan on stopping this fight until we pass the People’s Response Act.
We’ve said it time and again:
In any situation where someone is calling for help, the person responding should be equipped with the training and tools that best serve our communities. The person should not be an armed police officer. It should be someone who knows how to approach the situation, not someone who risks escalating a situation into a violent, perhaps fatal, one.
The current system has never worked and has never been inclusive. We need to pass the People’s Response Act and change public safety for the better.
Passing the People’s Response Act and transforming public safety is long overdue. Click here to stay up to date on all things PRA.
