Dom Raab MP's November 2019 E-Bulletin

Hello there,

Locally this month, I visited St Alban’s Catholic Primary School, attended a meeting with Elmbridge Philanthropy and went to a great evening show at Imber Court hosted by The Foley Boxing Amateur Club.

Up at Westminster, in my role as Foreign Secretary this month, I attended the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, updated the House of Commons on the situation in north east Syria and, in my role as First Secretary of State, I stood in for the Prime Minister at Prime Minister’s Questions.

This month, the UK was ranked one of the best places in the world to do business, and new data show that the government’s helping to get first-time buyers onto the housing ladder.

Finally, with MPs finally voting for a General Election, I will be hitting the campaign trail - making the case to get Brexit done, so we can focus on the people's priorities.

Best wishes,

Dom speaking to St Alban's Catholic Primary School's school parliament.

This month, I visited St Alban’s Catholic Primary School in East Molesey. I talked to the pupils during their assembly about my role as an MP locally and at Westminster and afterwards to the school parliament. St Alban’s is one of the most successful primary schools in Esher and Walton - a credit to the hard work and commitment of the headteacher, Mr Brannigan, and his brilliant team of teachers. You can read my blog post on the visit here ([link removed]) .

I also attended a panel meeting of Elmbridge Philanthropy to look at ways to support local groups. Elmbridge Philanthropy supports local community and voluntary groups who are making a difference to the quality of life of local residents, including isolated older people, those affected by long term illness or disability, and young people and families who need some support.

Finally, it was great to attend the Foley Boxing Club’s evening of dinner and boxing at Imber Court. Local boxing clubs from around the region put on a terrific show - and highlighted what a great sport boxing is for young men and women.
I had a busy month in my role as Foreign Secretary, speaking to the Iraqi PM and Hungarian Foreign Minister, and deepening the UK’s relationship with Georgia through the UK-Georgia Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

The UK’s crucial role in NATO has also been a key focus. I addressed the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, talking about how the alliance is preparing for future challenges and evolving threats, while reinforcing our shared values and common purpose. I also signed North Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol and met with the Alliance’s Secretary-General. I am looking forward to the UK hosting the NATO Leaders’ Meeting in London in December.

In Parliament, I updated MPs on the situation in north east Syria following Turkey’s incursion, and – in my role as First Secretary of State – deputised for the Prime Minister for the first time at Prime Minister’s Questions.
This month we’ve seen more evidence of the UK’s position as one of the best places in the world to do business. The UK rose to eighth place in the World Bank’s “Ease of Doing Business” index - second in the G7 only to the United States.

The PM has finally persuaded the Opposition to accept the necessity of a General Election on 12 December. I will be fighting to get Brexit done, deliver on our national priorities like levelling up school funding and cutting the cost of living, and setting out my local plan for the constituency - from delivering more school places to safeguarding the Greenbelt.
