John,
This Native American Heritage Month, we celebrate and honor Indigenous leaders across our state and country. We recognize the remarkable importance of electing leaders who represent our communities, where everyone can see themselves represented in positions of power, and then, in turn, create policies that reflect lived experiences.
Earlier this year, Secretary Deb Haaland was confirmed to lead the Department of the Interior and made history as the first Native American Cabinet Secretary, sharing in her confirmation hearing:
“I carry my life experiences with me everywhere I go. It’s those experiences that give me hope for the future. If an Indigenous woman from humble beginnings can be confirmed as Secretary of the Interior, our country holds promise for everyone.”
Secretary Haaland’s fierce leadership and service reflect her commitment to community, organizing, and fighting for future generations.
Here in Minnesota, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan continues to provide steadfast leadership, organizing communities across the state to get COVID-19 vaccines, promoting meaningful investments in our education system, and prioritizing the fight for reproductive rights and electing pro-choice women leaders.
And with Senator Mary Kunesh’s leadership, Minnesota became the first state to have an office focused on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives.
John, leadership matters. And with every single seat in the Minnesota legislature up for election in 2022, we must remain committed to electing pro-choice women leaders ready to advocate for their constituents.
Will you sign up to join our volunteer list and help elect pro-choice women leaders like Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, Senator Mary Kunesh, Representative Jamie Becker-Finn, and Representative Heather Keeler? It is going to take all of us to change the face of power and protect reproductive rights for generations to come.
This month and every month, we commit ourselves to the work of electing pro-choice women leaders to create a government that is representative of our state and communities.
Together,
