Washing and drying our clothing is contaminating the air we breathe. It’s true.

Based on our research with SFEI in 2019, we found a high concentration of microfibers in stormwater runoff, leading to the question; where is it coming from? Our Plastic Air study will tackle this question by exploring levels of concentration and sources of microfibers coming from laundromats.

Our research will improve understanding of airborne microfibers and estimate emissions from dryer exhaust. We intend to provide policy makers with sound scientific evidence that will inform decision making in California and beyond, test potential impacts from secondary dryer filters, and contribute data to model microfiber pathways.

Will you support this important research that has the potential to affect your health and the health of your neighbors?
