It's Day 2 of our weeklong series of creative, 1-minute virtual actions supporting the Wendy's Boycott!
Today, the Fair Food Nation is plugging into an exciting campaign aimed at Trian Partners, the hedge fund run by Wendy's Board Chair Nelson Peltz and Wendy's top institutional shareholder. The campaign has been led by a dynamic, multigenerational group of organizers under the banner of New York Fair Food. This fall, they've been hard at work, garnering the support of human rights institutions, student groups, grassroots organizations, congregations, and most recently, New York City's elected officials.
The next goal in the campaign is to hold a hearing for New York City Council Resolution 1156, urging Wendy's to join the Fair Food Program and support farmworkers' human rights. The resolution already has the backing of 28 City Council Members, just 6 short of the 34 needed to secure a hearing in the Council's Labor and Civil Service Committee and, ultimately, a formal vote!
TODAY you can help us move NYC Council Resolution 1156 toward a vote by participating in our click-to-call action [[link removed]] . We've put together a script to help guide your brief conversation with a Council Member, which you'll find when you sign up to call.
Call a NYC Council Member [[link removed]]And if you're in living in NYC, you can join New York Fair Food for a lively protest on Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. outside of Park Avenue-based Trian Partners, Wendy's largest institutional shareholder. Nelson Peltz, Trian's CEO and Wendy’s Board Chair, has unconscionably rejected the Fair Food Program for years, refusing to ensure farmworkers in Wendy’s supply chain access to critical human rights protections, including industry-leading, enforceable standards on COVID-19 safety and heat stress. Instead of refusing to commit to the most widely respected human rights program in the food industry today, it’s time for Mr. Peltz and Trian Partners to invest in enforceable health, safety, and human rights protections for farmworkers in Wendy’s supply chain.
