Yesterday, Michelle Wu was sworn in as the Mayor of the City of Boston. It was a historic day for our capital city—Mayor Wu is the first woman and person of color elected to the position—and an exciting one for folks across Massachusetts.Â
Over the years, Michelle Wu has been a partner and friend to many of us here at the party. In 2018, we worked with her to bring back the historic China Pearl Banquet, which now helps raise funds for youth engagement. After a wave of MBTA derailments and delays in 2019, we helped then-Councilor Wu demand that Charlie Baker and the MBTA board reverse impending fare hikes.Â
That’s on top of the countless rallies, training sessions, conventions, and more where Mayor Wu has joined our efforts to elect Democrats now and recruit the next generation of candidates, staff, and activists. Here at the party, we’ve seen first hand how Michelle Wu’s commitment to equity, justice, and opportunity benefits not just residents of Boston, but people across the Commonwealth. We’re excited to see everything she’ll accomplish as Mayor.Â
