OUR LEADERS

The Apostle Paul urges us “first of all” to pray and give thanks...

for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.1 TIMOTHY 2:2

Please pray:

  • For the Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Government ministers;
  • For First Ministers Nicola Sturgeon, Paul Givan and Mark Drakeford;
  • For MPs, Peers and all elected representatives, that they would be wise and promote what is good and restrain evil;
  • That believers working in public service will act as salt and light.

ASSISTED SUICIDE

Human life is precious, not because of our ‘quality of life’, or our gifts and abilities, but because we are made in God’s image.

“…All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.PSALM 139:16

Please pray:

  • Giving thanks that the Prime Minister has said he will not support legalising assisted suicide in England and Wales;
  • With thanks that many Peers spoke out so powerfully against assisted suicide in the recent House of Lords debate;
  • With gratitude that assisted suicide is still illegal in the UK.

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

Marriage is a creation ordinance. It has been given by God for the good of all people – not just Christians.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” GENESIS 2:24

Please pray:

  • That churches will faithfully uphold the Bible’s teaching on marriage and sexual ethics;
  • That state authorities will respect parents’ God-given responsibility for their children;
  • That Christian parents remain free to raise their children in the training and instruction of the Lord;
  • Thanking God for the Coalition for Marriage as it seeks to promote traditional marriage.

TRANSGENDER IDEOLOGY

Transgenderism seeks to destroy the God-given distinction between men and women.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.GENESIS 1:27

Please pray:

  • With thanksgiving that those who oppose transgender ideology are starting to be heard;
  • For the protection of young people and that Christians continue to show grace and truth to those struggling with gender confusion;
  • That schools and public bodies will recognise and reject misleading guidance on transgender ideology;
  • Giving thanks that Stonewall’s influence on public institutions has been exposed. Some have ended their association with it – pray that many more would follow.

Thursday

SCOTLAND

Once known as the ‘land of the Book’, liberal thinking on moral issues is displacing Christian values to a greater extent than the rest of the UK.

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.JAMES 5:16

Please pray:

  • That Liam McArthur MSP’s proposals to legalise assisted sucide will fail;
  • That the Scottish Government will abandon its plan to speed up ‘sex changes’ for anyone aged 16 and over;
  • For protection for students, parents, and teachers who disagree with the roll-out of LGBT ideology across the curriculum;
  • That the Scottish Government will stop advising teachers to use false pronouns, and stop promoting sex changes to children as young as four;
  • For strong opposition to the non-prosecution policy that effectively decriminalises all drugs – even heroin.

Friday

OUR SCHOOLS

Schools need to be balanced when teaching controversial issues.

...Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder themMATTHEW 19:14

Please pray:

  • That teachers and pupils will not be compelled to promote or affirm LGBT lifestyles;
  • For our education team as they help parents, teachers and governors;
  • That God will bless all those seeking to have a Christian influence in schools.

Saturday

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

The Gospel is good news. Christians should not be hindered from sharing it.

Pray… that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of ChristCOLOSSIANS 4:3

Please pray:

  • For the Institute’s new Let Us Pray campaign as it opposes any ‘conversion therapy’ ban that would criminalise the ordinary work of churches;
  • Give thanks that Kenneth Ferguson, sacked for his beliefs on biblical marriage, won his case for religious discrimination against The Robertson Trust;
  • For Stirling Free Church, whose case against the Trust is expected to be heard in early December;
  • For Cornerstone fostering agency as – with the Institute’s help – it seeks a Supreme Court ruling on whether “evangelical” includes those who reject biblical teaching on sexual ethics.
