Working towards environmental justice

Today, the Milwaukee Environmental Roundtable held a press conference to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit that was held in Washington D.C. in 1991. The summit brought together over a thousand people from across the world and would be become one of the most important events in the history of the environmental justice movement.

Today the Milwaukee Environmental Justice Roundtable continues that work by bringing together people of color, Indigenous people and their white allies to advocate on various issues, including clean energy, climate resilience, and healthy water as a human right. 

"Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted for far too long by the effects of environmental degredation... We need to step up. We need to build a community where all people can live and thrive no matter what their background is, no matter their zip code, race, color or gender identity," said Angelito Tenorio, engagement and development manager.
