Dear Prayer Warriors and Faithful
Catholics,
Thanks to you and thousands of
others who joined our Spiritual Bouquet for the bishops of our country
leading up to their annual Assembly in Baltimore, I am honored to
deliver individual copies
to each of the bishops this week.
The evening before the conference
started, I had the opportunity to meet
with Bishop Joseph L. Coffey, Auxiliary of the
Archdiocese of Military Services. He is a great friend and supporter
of Catholic Action, and I gave him a copy of our
Spiritual Bouquet
certificate and he was very
grateful.
(See list of total prayer
intentions below.)
Even
better – We have the
help of America’s first canonized saint! The day before
heading to the conference venue, I had the opportunity to visit the
shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, MD,
just outside Baltimore. I placed our
Spiritual Bouquet on the altar where her remains are buried and prayed
a rosary for all of our members and their families, as well as for our
bishops.
“Elizabeth Ann Seton is a
saint. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is an American. All of us say this with
special joy, and with the intention of honoring the land and the
nation from which she sprang forth as the first flower in the calendar
of the saints. Elizabeth Ann Seton was wholly American! Rejoice for
your glorious daughter. Be proud of her. And know how to preserve her
fruitful heritage.” –Pope Paul
VI
Yes, Catholic Action is determined
to bring the laity and clergy into ever closer unity to strategically
defeat anti-Christian agendas working in society, and instead to
conform all aspects of society to the Gospel by building a Catholic
Civilization, where the Civil Laws conform to the Laws of the Gospel,
as Our Lord envisioned.
However, we know from scripture that
complaining alone leads to more wandering in the wilderness. So we are
taking a more creative approach, one that is much more consistent with
the example of all the saints in history:
(1) storming heaven with prayer,
and
(2) engaging the clergy in-person
with respect and good-will as the officers of our Church.
Regarding the prayer initiative,
the Spiritual Bouquet I am delivering on behalf of all our valiant
prayer warriors includes the following:
- 1,527 Rosaries;
- 268 Holy Hours/Eucharistic
Adoration;
- 102 Days of Fasting and
Abstinence;
- 151 Mass Intentions;
- 462 Litanies to the Blessed
Mother;
- 1,821 Hail Mary’s, in addition to innumerable other
Prayers and Devotions.
Fittingly then, as we pray for the bishops of our country, let’s
join to ask Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton to intercede on behalf of
our two primary intentions: 1/
For the spiritual wellbeing of all the bishops, and 2/ That they will
confront the challenges facing the Church with steadfast faith and
courage in order to make decisions in accord with God’s
Will.
So, I encourage you to continue to
storm heaven with your prayers until I am able to complete my mission of
handing this full Spiritual Bouquet over to the bishops at some point
during the week. All prayers, even those not “tabulated” in the
original bouquet are certainly honored before the Throne of God in
heaven.
There’s no time like the present,
and as you know, there is a great deal at stake in this decisive
moment for the Catholic Church in the US.
Thank you for your generous
participation in our Spiritual Bouquet for the bishops, and I look
forward to giving you further updates as I deliver the prayer
blessings to our shepherds throughout this week!
Sincerely yours in
Christ,
Thomas J. McKenna
