John,

Yesterday another round of Child Tax Credit payments hit the bank accounts
of millions of American families.

Ahead of the holiday season, we know these payments are helping families
put food on the table. In California’s 45th district alone, an estimated
114,000 kids have been helped by the Child Tax Credit—a tax cut of over
$28 million for Orange County families.

Nationwide, childhood poverty was reduced by 25% after just one payment,
with estimates that childhood poverty could be reduced by 40% if the
payments continued a full year.

This tax cut was created as part of the American Rescue Plan which
Congress passed in March, but payments are set to end in December. That’s
why Katie is advocating that we permanently continue the Child Tax Credit
payments. The cost of raising kids simply doesn’t stop when these payments
do.

And as one of the only single parents in Congress, Katie has also
introduced legislation to amend the Child Tax Credit so that it can be
equally beneficial for single-parent families. Right now, the cutoff for
single-parents to receive support is lower than the cutoff for married
parents, unfairly punishing kids whose parents aren’t married.
Single-parent families deserve the same support that families with two
parents get, because as Katie always says, there’s no single-parent
discount at the grocery store, for school supplies, or for paying rent.

making it fair to single-parent families, sign Katie’s petition. Investing
in our kids is the best investment we can make in our country’s future.
