We Kicked Off Our Activities Made Possible By The Jordan Community Grant!

This month we shared with you the exciting news that  Hollaback! was announced as an inaugural recipient of a Jordan Community Grant, as part of Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand’s Black Community Commitment Grant Program.

And to  kick it all off, we hosted a livestreamed roundtable discussion called “Let’s Talk: Stop Sponsored Police Violence & Anti-Black Racist Harassment.”'

UniQue Webster, Hollaback!’s Director of External Affairs, led this discussion with our special guests Bridgett Floyd (sister of the late George Floyd; President & CEO of the George Floyd Memorial Foundation) and Michael S. Williams (activist of the Black on Black Project). Thank you to everyone who joined this discussion about the disproportionate levels of harassment, discrimination, and inequitable treatment in the legal system that Black Americans face. And of course, a huge thank you goes to our guests for taking the time to join us for this important conversation!

If you missed the livestream, visit our Facebook page to watch it and share your thoughts in the comments. This is one you don’t want to miss!

Hollaback! in the News

Last month, Washington D.C.’s Office of Human Rights joined as partners for our Stand Up Against Street Harassment initiative! “The deeply rooted biases that sometimes divide us can cause harassment to escalate to violence and our hope is to turn the tide by increasing solidarity and fighting against hate.” said OHR Interim Director Hnin Khaing.  Our partnership with them will train approximately 2000 D.C. employees and residents for free!

Hollaback! and L'Oreal Paris teamed up with Chalkback, to bring stories of harassment to the streets of NYC in a public art exhibition at 10 Hudson Yards! New York residents were  able to read the stories written in chalk, and the messages also served to raise awareness for our Stand Up Against Street Harassment training campaign. Read more about this story here. And share your story with us anytime. We believe you and we've got your back.

At Hollaback!, we have the best donors. Our donors are so amazing in fact, we want to share them with you!

American Author Janet Wong recently connected directly with out team and shared a very inspiring decision, "I've admired your bystander training for a long time-so much that I'm even donating 100% of the profits from my new book GOOD LUCK GOLD & MORE to your organization. Thanks for your great work." We are so grateful for you Janet, and your active support for the movement!

Janet also shared with us, "I just want to inspire people to do the same."
In this video Janet Wong reads the poem "Noise" from Good Luck Gold & MORE, talking about the need for bystander training to help #StopAsianHate and praising Hollaback! for their important work in this area.
