John,

The longest-standing U.S Senator, Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont, DFA’s
home state, announced yesterday that he won't seek reelection, after
serving in the Senate since 1975.

With Democrats holding onto an extremely narrow margin in the Senate, we
have to be prepared to make Saving the Senate a top priority in 2022.

Vermont has a Republican governor that’s very popular, so we need to be
ready to compete in and win numerous Senate seats across the country, from
Wisconsin to North Carolina, just in case this seat flips red.

Next year's Senate races will come down to which side is more energized
and we cannot let our opponents get a head start.

It’s no overstatement to say the work we do over the next few months will
be critical in ensuring progressive campaigns like Mandela Barnes in
Wisconsin and Cheri Beasley in North Carolina have the resources they need
to win next November.

With Senator Leahy's retirement, there are multiple competitive Senate
seats up for grabs.
